  • Trauma

  • Arthritis & Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Tendon Lacerations

  • Wide Awake Surgery

Areas of Interest

Dr. Cassidy is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity, and in orthopedic trauma. Having completed dual fellowships in Orthopedic Trauma and Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, he is uniquely poised to address chronic conditions of the hand, forearm, and elbow—such as arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome—as well as the fractures, tendon lacerations, and crush injuries that come with the active lifestyles of those living in Colorado.

Dr. Cassidy obtained a master’s degree in business administration prior to pursuing medical school. The lessons from those years have set the foundation for his practice of medicine: he believes that “high value care” is when patients receive the best outcomes at the lowest cost. Similarly, his research focuses on improving the quality of care while reducing costs to patients and the health care system. He is experienced in “wide awake surgery” as a method to minimize anesthesia exposure and shorten patients’ recovery time.

More About Dr. Cassidy

Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Cassidy fell in love with the West spending summers fishing in Montana with his father and grandfather. He made his way to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder for his undergraduate studies. After the completion of college, he attended CU’s Leeds School of Business where he focused on entrepreneurship and finance before pursuing medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  He completed residency and a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI, and pursued fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Utah.

Dr. Cassidy joined the Colorado Springs Orthopedic Group in the fall of 2016. He is honored to be joining CSOG, a group of physicians who have mentored him through the years going back to his days as a medical student at the University of Colorado. As his wife, Dr. Heather Matthews Cassidy, is originally from Colorado Springs, Dr. Cassidy has deep roots in our community and is excited to finally “make it back.”  Like many of his patients, Dr. Cassidy values his leisure time: he loves to hike, bike, fish, and ski with his wife and two sons.

Toni Boyko, PA-C

Areas of Interest

Originally starting her career in primary care, a fortunate encounter with Dr. Cassidy brought Toni to Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group as a Physician Assistant to both Dr. Cassidy and Dr. Watson. She is particularly passionate about surgery and enjoys assisting in the operating room as much as interacting with patients in the clinic.

More about Toni

Toni was raised in Orlando, FL. During her undergraduate career, she developed a particular interest in biomedical sciences. Experiences while traveling abroad after college directed her interest toward medicine. During her clinical year in PA school, she spent a month in Honduras taking care of citizens of rural mountain villages. She is particularly passionate about medical mission work.

After completing PA school, Toni was determined to move to Colorado because of her love for the mountains. She achieved this goal after landing a position at a primary care facility in Colorado Springs, where she continued to pursue work in the surgical field. These pursuits ultimately brought Toni to CSOG as a member of the hand and upper extremity team.

As an avid rock climber and ex-gymnast, Toni is sensitive to hand injuries related to sports. She has a passion for healing and helping people continue to enjoy the activities they love. When she is not working, Toni can be found in the mountains rock climbing, hiking, or skiing.
